Ditulis Oleh pkpsm    Dalam usaha memartabatkan profesion keguruan, gagasan Guru Cemerlang (GC) telah diperkenalkan pada tahun 1993. Jawatan GC merupakan suatu bentuk insentif kepada guru yang telah berkhidmat dengan cemerlang dalam bidang mata pelajaran masing-masing. Guru Cemerlang telah mula diperkenalkan pada tahun 1994 berasaskan memorandum Kementerian Pendidikan
Malaysia kepada Kabinet bertajuk “Sistem Kenaikan Pangkat Dalam Perkhidmatan Pendidikan – Cadangan Ke Arah Meningkatkan Kualiti Perkhidmatan Pendidikan Dan Menghasilkan Guru Yang Cemerlang” (April 1993).tahun 1994, sistem kenaikan pangkat dalam Perhidmatan Pendidikan hanya berasaskan satu model sahaja. Seseorang yang dinaikkan pangkat dari DG41 (guru siswazah) ke DG48 misalnya, akan menjawat jawatan baru seperti Pengetua atau Pegawai Pendidikan Daerah.

Ia akan menjalankan tugas-tugas pentadbiran dan meninggalkan tugas-tugas lama sebagai guru dan pendidik. Dengan kata lain apabila seseorang guru itu dinaikkan pangkat, ia akan keluar dari tugas perguruan ataupun “moving up is moving out”. Read the rest of this entry »

Penan student lives with bare necessities at boarding school; some stop studying due to ‘hurtful’ teasing

KUCHING: Every school day, 13-year-old Wendy Musa wears the same uniform which she washes once a week.

Even if it smells, she still has to wear it till Friday afternoon before she can do her laundry.

This is because she has no spare and her single mother cannot afford to buy her another.

This Penan girl from Ba’ Abang, Ulu Baram, Miri Division, aspires to be a teacher but is uncertain of her future because she doesn’t know how long her mother can continue supporting her in secondary school.

This teenager is the eldest in a family of six siblings and her mother has no other source of income to support the family except self-sufficient farming. Read the rest of this entry »
